Looking at the images that I posted on December 11, the interesting observation is that the 100% mesh and the 50% mesh had fewer leaves than the post on March 26,2016 below although the trees in question are different varieties. I have included another historic Banyan tree on the Punahou School campus that will be preserved through the construction of the new grade 2 through 5 campus. Since many of the large historic trees in Hawaii are Banyan trees, we scanned the 100 meter diameter tree in the center of Waikiki several years ago to mesh and model it with Geomagic so the new shopping center could be merged around the tree. In that thread, I discussed the ability of Thinkbox/Sequoia to import large point clouds (> 1B points) and process them on a local computer and finally reduce the size of the mesh and apply a high resolution texture to the lower resolution mesh to give it the effect of a high resolution mesh. We have been scanning and meshing trees for many years, since almost every scan that is not indoors here in Hawaii will have trees as objects in the scan and most are very large because of the tree varieties in Hawaii.Ībout March of 2016, there was a meshing thread in LSF which discussed meshing of trees.
